Thanks for the help!
Twenty years ago, when Kristine was 19 years old, she worked as an au pair for the Burke family in Sassafras River, Chesapeake Bay. Thanks to Facebook, they recently got in contact again. When the Burkes saw that we were sailing up the east coast of USA, they invited us to visit them.
After a two days sail from Norfolk, we were met by John and Terry, who guided us to their dock, where we could tie up our boat. It was very special for Kristine to see them and the house again. Kristine also met one of the children she took care of, Christine, which was now all grown up! Christine, John and Terry had lots of stories to remember from when Kristine used to work there.
For the captain, the biggest relief was access to a dock and a car. We used five days to fix things on the boat, buy new batteries, have a mechanic replace our broken raw water pump, and stock up with supplies for the upcoming Atlantic crossing. At Walmart we shopped over 200 liters of bottled water and soda, and food to last us a month. It would be difficult to do this in New York City!
We are very grateful for the hospitality we got in Sassafras River. Thanks again to John and Terry Burke!
